Another shot from the same garden and same trip.
I really liked how the aperture threw the background into a nice green and made the flowers jump out.

Yellow flowers
Red-hot Pokers
This was a shot I took at a local nature preserve for my photography class.
It is definitely one of my favorites, I've got it printed out and in my office at work.

Overdue first post...
I originally created this blog when I was getting my Nikon D40x digital camera and wanted to chronicle the equipment I got and my trials and tribulations with getting going in photography.
Photography is something that I have been interested in since I was a kid, but never really had a chance to explore it at the time (back then no digital photography of any sort). Later after I had a job and a full life, I decided that I wanted to get back to pursuing this interest. This was helped by a stint that my wife had at an outdoor education center that did their own black and white developing. This got me excited about it again. Fast forward an additional ~5 years, I had still had the burning desire, but no funds to get a darkroom together. Not to mention, I was worried about the costs of experimenting with aperture, shutter speed, etc. and maybe getting just blurred snapshots for my efforts (and getting to track my settings for all my photos so that I could figure out what I had done). So finally, I took the plunge and bought (what I thought was the best choice for what I could afford to spend) a digital SLR camera, the Nikon D40X.
That was last April (2007), I've loved it so far. I've read up on photography in general and digital photography specifically, and taken at least one class at a local nature center.
So alas, after almost an entire year, I'm trying again to get this blog started, and share some of my discoveries and my work.
